A Sad Event I was out delivering books a week before Christmas and called on Sally. As I approached her house a lady came out and informed me Sally was in hospital. She had been diagnosed with cancer of the liver and did not have long to live. I was extremely upset at hearing this news, and I was determined to call back before Christmas to see Sally.

On the following Sabbath I asked the Birdwood, SA, church to pray for her, and after the sermon I was told to expect a food parcel from the church members to give to Sally.

On the morning before Christmas I called in at Sally's house, only to be told she had died earlier that morning. One of the relatives said the only thing Sally's children had asked for was to have their mother home for Christmas. They were grateful for the groceries and as I did not wish to intrude, I left quickly.

As I write this I think of Sally. She was not just my customer, but a good friend. I don't want to take my mind off her, but I know it will happen. I don't want to start celebrating the festive season and forget about this sad event. However, I realistically know I will get busy, I will think of other things and I feel angry that this will eventually happen. I don't want to take my mind off her.

I realise though that God will not forget her and I will leave Sally in His hands. This comforts me a great deal and I am sorry that as humans we are so unreliable with the affairs of life.

Thank you, God, for Your tremendous care and love. You are the One who will always remember each one who passes away, and I know Sally will not be for gotten. - Eric Hoare, Western Central Area
